Overview of Ubuntu Desktop

Ubuntu is a Linux-based operating system. It is designed for computers, smartphones, and network servers. The system is developed by a UK based company called Canonical Ltd. All the principles used to develop the Ubuntu software are based on the principles of Open Source software development.

 

Features of Ubuntu

Following are some of the significant features of Ubuntu −

• The desktop version of Ubuntu supports all the normal software on Windows such as Firefox, Chrome, VLC, etc.
• It supports the office suite called LibreOffice.
• Ubuntu has an in-built email software called Thunderbird, which gives the user access to email such as Exchange, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
• There are a host of free applications for users to view and edit photos.
• There are also applications to manage videos and it also allows the users to share videos.
• It is easy to find content on Ubuntu with the smart searching facility.
• The best feature is, it is a free operating system and is backed by a huge open source community.

1. Download Ubuntu Desktop disini. Contoh instalasi menggunakan versi 20.04 LTS.

2. Download aplikasi Rufus untuk create bootable USB versi portable disini.
   • 
3. Create bootable Ubuntu Desktop ke flashdisk menggunakan aplikasi Rufus dengan langkah-langkah berikut:

4. Verifikasi BIOS mode adalah: UEFI and Legacy
   • Pastikan perangkat dalam keadaan Power-Off.
   • Koneksikan perangkat ke Monitor.
   • Koneksikan perangkat dengan USB Keyboard.
   • Power-On perangkat. Saat awal perangkat Power-On, tekan tombol “DEL” secara berulang-ulang untuk masuk ke BIOS.
   • Jika sudah masuk ke BIOS, maka Anda perlu memastikan BIOS mode di Menu “Advanced > CSM Configuration > Boot option filter“. Pilih UEFI and Legacy.

   • Save Changes and Exit.

5. Koneksikan bootable Flashdisk Software Sophos XG ke port USB perangkat.
   • 
6. Power-On perangkat. Saat Awal booting perangkat, tekan “F11” untuk masuk ke opsi Boot BIOS. Kemudian pilih “FlashDisk-Name”

7. Checking disks.
   • 
8. Welcome message. Install Ubuntu.
   • 
9. Keyboard layout > English (US) > English (US) > Continue.
   • 
10. Updates and other software > Continue.
    • 
11. Installation type > Erase disk and install Ubuntu > Install Now.

12. Write the changes to disk > Continue.
    • 
13. Where are you? > Jakarta > Continue. Catatan: Lokasi disesuaikan timezone Anda.

14. Who are you? > Fill form > Continue.

15. Proses instalasi.

16. Installation Complete > Restart Now.

17. Remove flashdisk kemudian Enter.

18. Login. Input password Anda saat proses instalasi.

19. Ubuntu Desktop. Pada tahap ini proses instalasi Software OS Ubuntu Desktop telah berhasil.
